The Gunslinger/Dark Tower Series by Stephen King

I love Stephen King's writing! The Gunslinger series may be his best work - but be prepared to make an investment of time. There are 8 books, all long and detailed. But the journey of the Gunslinger is worth it.

Shoe Dog by Phil Knight

The Nike brand is ubiquitous in sports and popular culture. From Air Jordans to athletic clothing, they have changed the paradigm. This is the story of how Nike came to be and how it almost didn't survive. A great story of dogged determination and ultimately victory. Lots of business lessons to be learned here.

Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance

An excellent memoir about growing up poor & rural in America. From drugs to unemployment, family dysfunction to hunger, this book chronicles a life that all too many Americans can identify with. It is Vance's attempt to connect the left and the right by offering a chance to understand a group that is underrepresented, judged and ridiculed. This is a look in the mirror, America.

Hitchhiking with Larry David by Paul Samuel Dolman

Paul's first book and it has been a hit on Martha's Vineyard ever since. It's the story of my friend Paul and his journey to find himself after a difficult break-up. It is funny, sad and uplifting all at the same time. And like the title, Larry David has a role as does Ted Danson, David McCulloch and other Vineyard regulars. Take a chance - you won't be disappointed. (Oh and it has two more books in the series as well)
